2012 Elections

In March of 2012, CTA will be electing officers for a new Board of Directors and will also be appointing several volunteer positions. Following is the information about the positions that are open; if you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for one of these positions, please contact current CTA President Corinne McKay (303-499-9622 or corinne@translatewrite.com) or elections coordinator Karen Williams (german2english@comcast.net). The only Board position that is not up for re-election is Secretary, as our current Secretary Kathy DiCenzo has offered to run again.

General information: All candidates for Board positions must be CTA members in good standing and their 2012 membership dues must be paid. Because these positions involve a substantial time commitment, it is our intention to nominate only one person for each position. It is important to note that a) because CTA is a relatively small association, our Board members perform the vast majority of their tasks themselves rather than delegating them and b) other than complimentary attendance at CTA events or reimbursement for direct expenses, Board members receive no compensation. However, our association is in excellent financial health and we have funding for an array of programs and events. Thank you for your willingness to serve our association!

Description of specific positions:

President: oversees all of CTA’s programs and functions; serves as CTA’s main point of contact with other associations such as the Denver World Trade Center and the American Translators Association; plans at least one social event and one professional development event per quarter; tracks and contributes to discussions on the CTA e-mail list; plans and conducts Board meetings at least twice per year; tracks CTA’s financial status; assists other Board members and volunteers with their duties; resolves conflicts within the association.

Vice President: fulfills many of the same duties as the President, but in an advisory or complementary role; substitutes for the President if he/she is unavailable; works closely with the President to make sure that all of CTA’s operations and programs are running smoothly.

Treasurer: manages CTA’s finances; deposits checks into the CTA account, manages the CTA PayPal account and reimburses CTA members for association-related expenses; pays CTA’s membership dues to other associations such as the Denver World Trade Center.

Membership director (appointed, not elected): tracks CTA’s active members using an online database and a spreadsheet; sends out an updated membership spreadsheet at least once per quarter; sends welcome packets to new members; answers questions about member benefits; sends reminders to members who have not renewed. Note that this position’s work is most intense from mid-December to mid-February.

Webmaster (appointed, not elected): updates CTA’s website with current events and programs; helps new members create their online profiles; works with CTA’s web programmer to add new features to the CTA website. Note that CTA’s paid web programmer can assist with these duties.

Mid-year conference planning committee (appointed, not elected): plans CTA’s mid-year conference, normally held in May; selects sessions, recruits a keynote speaker, plans the overall program, books the venue and plans meals; recruits volunteers to help with the event; writes speaker thank-you notes; conducts post-conference survey.
