What’s the CTA Social Media Challenge all about?

#CTA2022challenge

CTA is running a Social Media Challenge throughout the next 2 weeks (Monday, January 17 through Sunday, January 30). We talked with Jem Walker, Social Media Coordinator, about what the challenge is all about:

CTA: Jem, tell us a little bit about the #CTA2022challenge.

JW: This is an event that was first conducted in December 2020 by the previous social media team, and it presents an opportunity for CTA members and followers to interact with us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and not only to share some professional insights, but also to raise the profile of CTA among other T&I practitioners.

CTA: That sounds fun. How does the average member participate, then?

JW: During the challenge period, we will have a daily post on each platform. Each post will tell you how many points are up for grabs and how you can earn them – it might be answering a trivia question, sharing a picture or commenting an anecdote. We want these to be little interactive windows into each other’s work, whether it relates to languages, subject areas, or even your WFH space!

CTA: Will this help promote CTA and our events on various social media platforms?

JW:  Yes! It’s important for CTA members to tag your friends and colleagues, and to share posts with them. Get them involved, and even invite them to join the CTA mailing list (which might earn you points on a particular day of the #CTA2022Challenge (hint, hint!)

CTA: This seems like a great way to bring us all together—virtually—even though we are working in our own offices or going to interpret at meetings and interviews on our own.

JW:  Exactly! It is a way of building up our virtual community, which has been particularly important during the pandemic and as we start to emerge, and look forward to more opportunities to gather in-person, like the CTA Conference in May of this year.

Be a part of the #CTA2022challenge !

CTA: And I understand there are prizes for the top contributors?

JW: Yes, we all love books, so we will have 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of gift cards for the Tattered Cover Bookstores, a long-time Denver independent bookstore. The gift cards are valid for online purchases at www.tatteredcover.com as well as their city locations (they are not valid at the DEN airport locations, unfortunately).

CTA: This sounds great, and I’m personally looking forward to participating! Any final thoughts you’d like to share with CTA members and followers?

JW:  I’m glad you’re looking forward to the challenge! We’re hoping it’ll be a great way for current (and future!) members to engage with CTA and their colleagues in the language field in a relaxed and fun way. I’m excited to see who bags the prizes!
